Farm and Garden Camp Assistants

The Farm and Garden Camp is run by The Farm Education Collaborative (TFEC) at the Hampshire College Farm each summer. Students interested in staff positions for the camp should apply directly to TFEC.

Work-Study Positions (School Year)

Livestock Assistant

Job Description: Feed, clean, and tend livestock. Chores include, but are not limited to, feeding and watering animals, gathering and washing eggs, changing bedding, and maintaining farm facilities. The Hampshire College Farm is looking for assistants with a strong commitment to sustainable agriculture. Farm work is often strenuous; assistants must feel physically capable of and willing to work outdoors in all types of weather. Prior experience is not necessary; assistants will be properly and thoroughly trained for any new task. Hours vary, but generally include regular morning (approximately an hour between 7-9 a.m.) and/or afternoon (approximately an hour between 3-5 p.m.) animal care, as well as some weekends and/or holidays. Additional hours also will be available on a varying basis depending on the needs of the farm and the animals.

Vegetable Assistant

Job Description: Harvest, wash, and prepare organic vegetables for the Hampshire College CSA share pickup and delivery to the on-campus dining hall. Hours are 1-4 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays and 8-11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays during harvest season. (To be clear, you do not need to be available for all of these time slots.) The Hampshire College Farm is looking for assistants with a strong commitment to sustainable agriculture. Farm work is often strenuous; assistants must be able to work in the early morning and feel physically capable of and willing to work hard outdoors in all types of weather. Prior experience is not necessary; assistants will be properly and thoroughly trained for any new task.

On-Farm Projects

Because the farm is a dynamic place with a wide variety of ongoing activities, students, faculty, and staff members who would like to use the farm for research or other projects are requested to submit a proposal to the farm committee well ahead of time.
