Barbara Shufro is an attorney, specializing in education matters and representing parents and guardians of students with disabilities. Barbara enjoys helping parents be effective advocates for their children, understands the challenges that students with disabilities and their families face, and is committed to providing effective, knowledgeable, and practical representation that achieves positive results.
Prior to practicing in this area, Barbara was a law firm partner and group manager at a national law firm, where she was recognized on the Silicon Valley Best Lawyers List for intellectual property representation and practiced in the areas of both business and litigation. In addition to private practice, Barbara has volunteered as a special education attorney for the Law Foundation’s Legal Advocates for Children and Youth, on private and public school board committees, and as a community advocate in local schools. Her efforts were recognized with a Santa Clara County Honorary Service Award and Special Congressional Recognition from Congresswoman Anna Eshoo.
Barbara is a graduate of Hampshire, completing a Division III project on the role of citizen participation in federal urban redevelopment programs. She received her J.D. from Northeastern School of Law, an LL.M. in Advocacy from Georgetown University Law Center, and a master’s degree in Disability Studies from City University of New York. She was also a graduate fellow at Georgetown University Law Center’s clinical program in the area of civil rights and disability law, and a judicial law clerk in the U.S. District Court of Maine.
Barbara and her husband David have lived in California since 1986 and are proud parents of their three adult children, daughter-in-law, and grandson.
