Ellen Sturgis joined the Hampshire Board in 2018.
She is currently a principal of Night Heron Consulting which offers interim CEO & CFO services as well as expertise in redesigning financial and operational systems. In addition Ellen is currently a Corporator for Middlesex Savings Bank, and is on the Leadership Council for MassCreative, a statewide arts advocacy organization. She is also currently serving on the Selectboard of Stow MA, having formerly served as Assistant Town Moderator and on a variety of boards in Stow, including the Second Century Library Fund, the Municipal Land Use Committee, the Nashoba Regional School Committee and chair of the Elementary School Building Committee.
Previous to launching her consulting practice in 2018, Ellen worked with organizations including the United South End Settlements, Actors’ Shakespeare Project, Amazing Things Arts Center, Sudbury Valley Trustees and completed the Loan Officer Training Program at Bank of Boston. She has over 30 years of experience in the world of nonprofits. Ellen went on to work with a variety of consumer and worker-owned cooperatives, including Equal Exchange and the ICA Loan Fund, where she launched and received funding to expand consumer cooperatives throughout New England.
Ellen is a graduate of Hampshire (B.A. History/Political Science), and holds an M.B.A. in finance from Boston College. As Trustee, Ellen chaired the search for a new Hampshire College President in 2019. Previous to serving as Trustee, Ellen helped form the Alumni Advisory Group under the leadership of President Jonathan Lash and served as its chair from 2011-2017.
