
Rebecca "Becky" Miller

Rebecca "Becky" Miller is professor of music at Hampshire College where she teaches courses in music, writing, and journalism. A graduate of Bryn Mawr College, she received an M.A. from Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. from Brown University, both in ethnomusicology. Her research areas include the Caribbean, Ireland/Irish-America, and the music of immigrant and refugee communities throughout the United States.
Miller is the author of numerous academic and general readership publications; her forthcoming book, Are You Dancing? Showbands, Popular Music, and Memory in Modern Ireland focuses on Irish popular music from 1925 to 1975 (Indiana University Press, anticipated publication March, 2025). A former public radio reporter, Miller is the producer/writer of award-winning audio and video documentaries as well as a professional musician (Appalachian old time and Irish traditional fiddle).
