Committee on Historical Complaints of Sexual Harassment
After the President's Office received a complaint about an incident of sexual harassment that occurred at Hampshire years ago, involving individuals no longer at the College, then President Jonathan Lash, in spring 2018, convened and chaired a committee of trustees, faculty, and staff. He charged the committee with the goal of developing recommendations for responding to such complaints.
Early in its history, Hampshire developed policies against sexual harassment and sexual assault — before many other institutions. The College has now adopted a policy providing a process for how we will recognize historical complaints regardless of whether it is no longer possible for the college to investigate or take action.
The committee's recommendations have been accepted by Hampshire's Board of Trustees.
The College published the final report in September, 2018.
