Award-Winning Author Claudia Rankine to Deliver Race Matters Lecture at Hampshire
Esteemed author and poet Claudia Rankine, whose 2014 New York Times bestseller Citizen: An American Lyric earned multiple national book awards, will speak on the topic of "Creative Imagination & Race" at Hampshire's Race Matters Lecture Series on Tuesday, November 17, at 5:30 p.m. in Franklin Patterson Hall.
Rankine's Citizen was honored with the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry, the LA Times Book Award, the PEN Open Book Award, the NAACP Image Award, and as finalist for the National Book Award. Rankine is the Aerol Arnold Chair in the University of Southern California English Department.
Among the event sponsors are Hampshire's Offices of the President, Dean of Faculty, Dean of Students, and Diversity and Multicultural Education. The event is free and open to the public. A light reception and book signing will be held following the lecture.
Among her numerous honors, Rankine is recipient of the Poets & Writers Jackson Poetry Prize and fellowships from the Lannan Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
