End-Of-Year Events Feature Div III Concerts, Exhibits, More

Shear, a Division III Thesis Show by Aliana Turkel at Roos-Rohde House
April 25-30 in Roos-Rohde House. Opening Reception April 28 from 7-10 p.m.
Shear is a meditation on the butchering and consumption of the animal body through multimedia installation. There will be an opening reception on April 28 from 7-10 p.m., with an interactive performance from 7-8 p.m.

From Me, To It, To You, a Music Div III by Stevie Jick
April 25, 7 p.m.; April 26, 7 p.m.; April 27, 5:30 p.m., in the Centrum Gallery, Donut 1, Greenwich.
What happens when a performance faces abstractions similar to those that we are so familiar with in the context of day-to-day communication? How does it change the interaction between the performers and the audience? How far is too far, when the performance is abstracted auditorily, visually, or even temporally?

Hindustani Classical Music Concert

Healing? The Search for Meaning Lunch Series Presented by Spiritual Life

The Hampshire Jazz Improvisor's Orchestra: "Better Get It in Your Soul" 
April 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music and Dance Building Recital Hall.
The Hampshire Jazz Improvisor's Orchestra presents "Better Get It In Your Soul,” a concert celebrating the music of Thelonious Monk and Charles Mingus. Eleven musicians of the JIO will perform from their semester's work with the music of these two giants of African-American artistic creativity and cultural/political engagement.

Impressions of Judith/Diapason Div III concert by Rebecca Malin
April 27, 8 p.m. in the Music and Dance Building Recital Hall.
This two-part concert consists of Impressions of Judith, a series of pieces Malin wrote for two voices, piano, viola, clarinet and bass. Each of the pieces is influenced in some way by the Book of Judith from the Old Testament. The second part, Diapason, features original songs that have been orchestrated for various small ensembles comprising piano, voice, viola, violin, cello, marimba, saxophone, and bass. 

CS Lunch Talk, Peter Klecha Presents  ‘Loose Lips Sink Classical Notions of Meaning Conventions’
April 27, Noon-1 p.m. in ASH Lobby
In this talk the speaker provides a formal analysis of imprecise language use that allows us to speak coherently of grammatical conventions while acknowledging that we are not always faithful to them. Peter Klecha is a visiting assistant professor from the University of Connecticut He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and focuses his research on semantics, pragmatics, and morphosyntax. Pizza and gluten-free options will be served.

Outdoor Movie Night at the Farm Center
April 28, 8:00 p.m. at the Hampshire College Farm Center.
The Farm Center hosts an outdoor screening of the unique 1978 documentary The Secret Life of Plants by Walon Green. The film attempts to document “the pain and joy plants experience and how they communicate it” with mesmerizing time-lapse photography.
