Gordon Hall 01F Organizing Whitney Biennial Artist Lectures
Gordon Hall 01F, as the Center for Experimental Lectures, an artist project Hall founded in 2011, is organizing artist lectures in conjunction with the Whitney Biennial, a prestigious exhibition widely regarded as a trend-setting in the contemporary art world. The New York Times describes the biennial as a "barometer of the country's art." Founded in 1932, it has helped artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, and Jeff Koons rise to prominence.
Hall is "reimagining" the Whitney's historic Seminars with Artists, a program that existed at the Whitney from 1969 to 2004, consisting of conversations with the public led by what Hall calls "an incredible list of artists."
"For this new instantiation, I have divided the program into two sections: first an experimental pedagogical lecture, followed by the seminar, which is framed as a discussion of the themes of the lecture," Hall says. "I am thinking about the artist talk's close historical relation with teaching, and the creativity within both formats that this has produced."
The Whitney Biennial runs from March 7 to May 25 at the Whitney Museum of American Art's building at 945 Madison Avenue at 75th Street in New York City.
