Grant for Purchase of Scientific Equipment
Hampshire College has been awarded a 2014 Pittsburgh Conference Memorial National College Grant (PCMNCG) for the purchase of scientific equipment.
Professor of Chemistry Dula Amarasiriwardena, who wrote the funding proposal, said the grant will purchase a UV-visible spectrometer and field instruments for chemistry labs and environmental analysis field work.
"The UV-visible spectrometer will be used across our science curriculum," said Amarasiriwardena. "(It) will have a large impact on students across the scientific curriculum—chemistry, environmental sciences, and biology."
The PCMNCG is awarded to college science departments for the purchase of equipment, audio-visual or other teaching aids, or library materials for use in the teaching of science at an undergraduate level. The grant is funded by the Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy and its co-sponsoring technical societies.
