Grant Will Support Conference Organized by Prof. Falguni Sheth

Professor Falguni A. Sheth and Professor Mickaella Perina have received a grant from the American Philosophical Association to support their work organizing the 2014 California Roundtable on Philosophy and Race.

Sheth is an associate professor of philosophy and political theory at Hampshire College. Perina is chair of the philosophy department at the University of Massachusetts Boston.

Each fall, the California Roundtable on Philosophy and Race brings together philosophers of race to share their work and advance the field. It first convened in 2003, meeting for the first six years in California. It has since met at various campuses nationally, including Hampshire College in 2009 and UMass Boston in 2011.

Marquette University is the host campus for the 2014 conference. Anita Allen, the Henry R. Silverman Professor of Law and Professor of Philosophy, and Vice-Provost for Faculty at the University of Pennsylvania Law School will be the keynote speaker.

The Roundtable invites philosophical papers on any issue regarding race, ethnicity, or racism, including those that take up race in the context of another topic, such as feminism, political philosophy, ethics, justice, culture, identity, biology, phenomenology, existentialism, psychoanalysis, metaphysics, or epistemology.
