Hampshire Alum Michelle Falcón Fontánez 15F Selected for Women in Film & Video New England Fellowship

Michelle Falcón Fontánez 15F, a multimedia storyteller focused on identity, community, and social justice, has been selected as the inaugural fellow for the Director Shadow: SOCIAL IMPACT STORYTELLING™ program.
The Hampshire College alum, based in Springfield, Massachusetts, will serve as fellow for the 2025 program, created by Women in Film & Video New England (WIFVNE) in collaboration with EmVision Productions and Clark Ave Productions to provide emerging female filmmakers with critical guidance in the evolving landscape of documentary storytelling. During the six-month program, Falcón Fontánez will be mentored and create a documentary video for the EmVisionary Grants Program, which supports nonprofit organizations.
An award-winning producer, director, and cinematographer focused on social justice, Falcón Fontánez uses multimedia storytelling to amplify underrepresented voices. Her work spans photography, film, theater, and installation art, often centering on women’s rights, Puerto Rican activism, and cultural preservation. She produced a documentary on Puerto Rico’s economic crisis during the early PROMESA years and contributed as cinematographer to projects on Afghan refugees, Cuban defectors, and Puerto Rican community histories. Her latest short film, María, which focuses on reproductive justice, will premiere at this year’s Boston International Film Festival.
“Michelle Falcón Fontánez brings a strong background in storytelling across photography, film, theater, and installation art,” said CEO of EmVision Productions Dr. Tariana V. Little.
WIFVNE President Sharon Contillo added, “Michelle’s work aligns with the goals of this program to support new voices in documentary filmmaking.”
Falcón Fontánez holds a bachelor’s degree in business management and film from Hampshire and an M.F.A. in film and media art from Emerson College.
