Hampshire College Professor Jeff Barton on Math for Social Good
“I've learned that Hampshire students are really curious," Professor of Mathematics Jeff Barton. "They enjoy thinking about interesting problems, and they enjoy talking about interesting problems."
Professor of Mathematics Jeff Barton shares his passion for using math to tackle some of the urgent challenges of our time. He finds particular joy in providing fun and enriching math classes for students who might not have had a positive experience with mathematics before.
Barton’s cutting-edge research at the intersection of mathematics and political science delves into measures of fairness in relation to partisan gerrymandering. This semester, his students came together to form a group independent study, delving into the subject of gerrymandering and even creating a video game on the topic.
