Hampshire to Host 2017 Northeast Organic Farming Association Summer Conference
The Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) Summer Conference, a three-day celebration of the grassroots organic movement marking its 43rd year, will be hosted by Hampshire College August 11–13. The conference had many years of success on Hampshire's campus, from the mid 1980s to 2007.
Gardeners, farmers, growers, and food-lovers from across the Northeast will again share their inspiration and ideas for organic food, farming, health, activism, and beyond. With an array of workshops, seminars, exhibits, food, and fun, learning become a community action. Registration is available at http://nofasummerconference.org/register-now/.
In addition to more than 100 workshops and sessions on everything from soil health and food preservation to mushrooms, bees, and food activism, the conference features favorites such as the Children’s Conference, a contra dance, film screenings, local dinner celebration, farm tours, an exhibitors tent, and live music and drumming. This year will also feature a “Country Fair,” showcasing farm and garden innovations as well NOFA-VT’s wood-fired mobile pizza oven.
Along with tours of the Hampshire College Farm, this year's conference will feature the following workshops presented by College staff and alums:
· Pigs on Pasture: A Look at Management and the Aftermath
· Year-round Indoor Salad Gardening
With plenty of free parking, trees for shade, close accommodations, and Hampshire’s commitment to local, organic food sourcing and sustainability, this year’s conference will provide the inclusive, close-knit community atmosphere on which NOFA was founded.
"Building community and making connections are the best parts of the conference," NOFA said in a statement. "We want anyone and everyone excited about this event to be there, regardless of income." Work-exchange and scholarship opportunities are available, as are discounts for groups of five or more and for multiple children from the same family.
