John Berman (he/him) focused his studies at Hampshire on history, and the impact of grassroots community organizing on creating lasting social change. His career has been devoted to supporting and advocating on behalf of New York City public education and public higher education.
For ten years John served as education policy advisor to the Brooklyn Borough president and the New York City comptroller and then became assistant dean at Bronx Community College of the City University of New York (CUNY) where he was charged with building the college’s capacity to better support evening and weekend students. Most recently, he served as associate director of CUNY Tutor Corps — a program where undergraduates learned to become tutors for New York City public middle and high school students.
