Krakauer is a mountaineer and author of such bestselling books as Into the Wild and Under the Banner of Heaven, the latter of which has been turned into a television series starring Andrew Garfield. He received an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1999. Into Thin Air became a #1 New York Times bestseller and was translated into more than twenty-five languages. It was also Time’s Book of the Year, and was one of three finalists for the Pulitzer Prize.
