Castro is the first Mexican-American and first DREAMer to hold the position of New York City commissioner of the Mayor’s Office for Immigrant Affairs. He also serves as the executive director of the New Immigrant Community Empowerment, a Queens-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of immigrant workers in New York.
