Purchasing Office

General Information

The purchasing office provides assistance to all departments with procuring equipment, furniture, services, and supplies. Our mission is to direct consumers charged with purchasing for the College to goods and services that provide high quality and service at the lowest possible cost.

Nearly all employees play an active role in the purchasing function, either by buying items themselves or by requesting that purchases be made. Most of what we use in our daily work, from office supplies to work stations, has been acquired according to procedures developed in the purchasing office. Since most faculty and staff are involved in this activity, the purchasing office has produced a manual. It is intended to clarify what is expected of us when we obtain goods and services for the College.

Location and Hours

The purchasing office is located in Blair Hall on the second floor. The office is open:

Monday through Friday
8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and
1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Purchasing Manual 

The purpose of this purchasing manual is to serve as a reference for those who, in their role as representatives of Hampshire College, purchase goods and services to be used in the pursuit of its mission.

It contains a summary of the policies and procedures that have been developed to guide these actions. The explicit goal of these policies are threefold: to ensure the health and safety of the College's faculty, staff, and students; to encourage behavior in this area that adheres to a high ethical standard; and to facilitate a method of obtaining goods and services that protects the financial interests of the College.
