Colleges That Change Lives
Hampshire College is a member of Colleges that Change Lives, a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and support of a student-centered college search process. "Today, no college has students whose intellectual thyroids are more active or whose minds are more passionately engaged....There are two reasons why Hampshire graduates achieve so much. One is the kind of person the college attracts. The other is what the college does for them by equipping them to become their own wide-ranging explorers and connection-seekers." -- Loren Pope, Colleges that Change Lives (2006)
Colleges With a Conscience
Campus Compact and The Princeton Review teamed up to recognize colleges that foster social responsibility and make public service a priority, selecting 81 schools for inclusion in the new book Colleges With a Conscience. It is no surprise that Hampshire--with its motto of Non Satis Scire (to know is not enough)--is featured. In fact, Hampshire was one of the first liberal arts colleges in the country to require community service by all students. Several centers support this mission. The Community Partnerships for Social Change Program trains and places more than 300 students each year in service internships in community organizations, and Hampshire has several advocacy and policy institutes, including Civil Liberties and Public Policy (CLPP) and Population and Development (PopDev), which provide national and international opportunities for research, internships, and civic activism.
Peterson's Competitive Colleges Guide
Institutions included in Peterson's Competitive Colleges routinely attract and admit an above-average share of the nation's high-achieving students. Hampshire is among 433 colleges featured, in recognition of its bright, talented students and, "bold, innovative approach to the liberal arts that creates an academic atmosphere to energize students to work hard and grow tremendously, both personally and intellectually."
