Lorna Hunt (she/her)

Chief Information Officer
Lorna Hunt

On November 21, 2023, Hampshire announced the appointment of Lorna Hunt, an information technology executive with more than 25 years’ experience in higher education, as chief information officer, a new role at the College.

Hunt will report directly to Hampshire College President Ed Wingenbach while serving as the liaison between Hampshire and Ellucian, the College’s IT managed services partner. Hunt begins in this position in early December.

Hunt has held multiple IT roles during her higher education career at progressive institutions with academic programs similar to Hampshire’s. She joins the College from Colorado, where she most recently served as chief information officer and executive director of information technology at Naropa University.

During her tenure at Naropa, Hunt led the implementation of a sophisticated suite of security and business continuity measures, guided the transition to a new student information system, and established a framework to align information technology initiatives with university priorities, with a special emphasis on user experience and identity respect practices.

Previously, Hunt led teams at Antioch University who were developing systems to meet the technical needs of a liberal arts, narrative-based academic model. Her leadership and technology experience also includes founding and managing a systems integration personal computing store, Terra-Tek Computers, in Boulder, Colorado, that donated 10% percent of profits to environmental organizations.
Wingenbach said of Hunt’s appointment, “I am excited by what Lorna will bring to Hampshire — deep technical expertise, a wide array of IT strategic leadership, and a unique understanding of the role of IT in a college committed to innovation and experimentation. I’m looking forward to partnering with her to ensure a thriving and vibrant Hampshire for decades to come.”

Hunt’s history of volunteer work includes fundraising and activism in association with the Campus Greens of the University of Colorado, EarthFirst, and Greenpeace. In addition, Hunt served as president of the board of Dog Adoption & Welfare Group in Santa Barbara, California, and continues to devote her energies to animal rescue and initiatives promoting pollinator habitat.

As a graduate of Naropa University, alternative education models are close to Hunt’s heart.  Says Hunt, “I believe in transformation through mindful, transparent change enablement and a commitment to practices that promote social justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. I’m honored at this opportunity to serve the Hampshire College community.”
